Immigrant Dreams : From Croatia to PA to TX : The Gift of Freedom and a New Life is Born at Ellis Island

Immigrant Dreams : from Croatia to PA to TX : the Gift of Freedom and a New Life is Born at Ellis Island My Grandfather, born Viecoslaw Zuvic, later Louis Zuvich came through Ellis Island with a dream, like so many. He not only held a job, but was a supervisor, and never learned English. Talk about your great communicators. The tongue of my family is Serbo-Croatian, the "umbrella language" of the former Yugoslavia. Viecoslaw means "forever glorious." I will never forget because I looked through the Ellis Island manifests for a long time and never found "Louis Zuvich." Well, it gets more complicated. My surname, "Zuvich" was "Zuvic." My grandfather added the "H" in hopes that the name would be pronounced properly with a "ch" sound, to compensate for the symbol in Serbo-Croatian, that the English language does not have. Well, "that" didn't go well. He was also concerned that he wouldn't "fit in" with the name "Viecoslaw." So, he changed it to Louis. My father cleared everything up for me one day on the telephone. I called from my Texas home to Pennsylvania--where I am from, and my father retrieved the most accurate record---the family bible. There it was--recorded for posterity. I searched for "Viecoslaw Zuvic," and voila, there it was. Well, again, it gets even MORE interesting. My grandfather is from Luka, Dalmatia, Croatia of the former Yugoslavia----not Galicia--in Spain! What happened??? I really struggled with this. I researched and found that some Zuvic (es) came from Galicia. Was my family history ALL wrong. Was I Spanish---NOT Croatian???? Hmmm....what happened? I finally figured it out. Well, people get in a hurry. Can you imagine "processing" the number of immigrants that...

Texas : Montgomery County : A Dallas Cowboy Profile in Courage: A Special Teams Hero!

Texas : Montgomery County : A Dallas Cowboy Profile in Courage: A Special Teams Hero!
Stunning, isn't it? Cowboy stadium in all of its glory, and the Cowboys? Well, I dunno. Who will "show up" tomorrow again the Indianapolis Colts. Should be "some" game.
I mean, how inconsistent can they get? Picked to not only play on the Super Bowl---but WIN the Super Bowl. What happened?
So many expectations, yet so much disappointment. Players let us down, coaches let us down. But let me say this: The special teams coach, Joe DeCamillis, is an amazing man and an amazing coach.
Now, I do not pretend to be any kind of expert about football--but, let me say, I know people, and I know courage, excellence and an impregnable spirit when I see it. He is quite a coach as demonstrated by the quality of the calls and successes he has had during this season.
Tom Landry is in a class all by himself, but DeCamillis is amazing also.
Last season----yikes. It was May 2nd, 2009 at the...

"I Dreamed a Dream" Yes....and Music...my Muse, My First Love Stirs my Soul
Sun. October 31, 2010 at 10:38 PM
Huntsville TX Realtor, Mari Montgomery, Dreamed a Dream. She dreamed that her world would always be filled with music, she dreamed of sharing her song, literally and figuratively.
But, as in every good Sonata Form in Music, that Dream had a "Development" section.
Fast forward to the present--there was a "present." As I sat in the new "James and Nancy Gaertner Performing Arts Center" on the campus of Sam Houston State University last evening, my heart began to swell along with the crescendos of the fabulous brass section of the Houston Symphony Orchestra in their very first selection, Fanfare, Op. 59 by Aulis Sallinen The performance was last evening in Huntsville TX.
As the cacophony of overtones and undertones refracted from the smooth light wood finish, reminiscent of the look of Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, New York City, and was met by my very receptive and appreciative senses, I remembered. I remembered the feeling...
The feeling of the my...

Huntsville TX Real Estate -- North Houston Real Estate -- "How -a-bout that!" A personal Book of Revelation:
You know, I cannot get specific --it is about a transaction-- Let's just say--maybe---just maybe there's justice in the world.
I have been attempting to figure out a situation with a transaction for several weeks. I finally got to the "bottom of it" just to find out--"ouch--that was the bottom and well, maybe--that wasn't the best thing to do---Maybe, I shouldn't have gotten to the bottom of it.
After all, ignorance is bliss. Or.....
Quick Sideline----don't worry, the dots will connect---however this is not a guarantee -- it all depends on your "randomness configuration calibration system." Never mind, here goes:
Got a call from a long time friend tonight who was in teaching on the secondary level for a very long time. Let's just she has definitely "earned her stripes" through a mega-school of hard knocks. And, just like is such a...

Home....home is what really matters

Home is what really matters...
My feelings about home are why I became a Realtor and then wanted to get as much additional training and education as possible with completing the GRI and CRS Designations within my first year and a half.
Why? Because I LOVE helping my clients find the right place for them and their families to come to after a long day. I want to learn every day so that I can be a better and better Realtor to assist folks and families find their place that transcends its 4 walls and 3 bedrooms and 2 baths....
a place where memories are made,
where cookies are baked,
where laughter permeates the family room,
where Monday Night Football is a religion...
the place you can let your hair down, not necessarily wear makeup,
curl up on a chair on the porch with an old book you've been meaning to get to, and listen as the fall wind
rustles in the trees.
Home...the safe place, the place to try that new goulash recipe that doesn't work out, so...

Conroe Homes - Montgomery TX - What's East TX Girl Doing at Cowboy Stadium???
Here we go. Sorry Houston Texan fans. I promise it was in my pre-nup. My husband has been a Cowboy fan for more years than he cares to count.
How in the world did I get this footage? Bootleg, baby! This was fascinating to visit the locker room and walk in the tunnel, see Jerry Jones private parking garage and the private elevator that opens into the tunnel to the stadium.
Make sure you watch the video. I ALMOST get caught. The operative word is "almost."
Oh, there's more to come and it's some great footage! Stay Tuned. Go Cowboys!
What a Place. Take a look. Wonder who comes out of the elevator at the end?????? Can you guess?

Huntsville TX Homes -- Bunko--Bunko--BUNKO BABY !!! VOTE HERE !

Huntsville TX Homes -- Bunko--Bunko--BUNKO BABY !!! VOTE HERE !
What's up??? Bunko. Yes, there is some gambling involved---the stakes get quite high---sometimes you can win $25.00 !
Bunko (or Bunco) is a game normally played with 3 tables of 4 players each broken into two teams with two each. There are 3 Tables, Table 1,2, and 3. Play starts with a signal---like a bell and the round ends when one of the two teams at "Table 1" reaches "21" as a score. And there's more--check out Wiki
I have enjoyed my BUNKO group so much that I talk about it a lot. So, a couple of my clients
gave me the idea to start our own group! Woo-hoo. This will be fun.
Now to figure out a name. Hmmmmmmmmmm....................
That's where you come in VegasBob and everyone! We need a name. It has to do with gambling, so I naturally thought of Vegas.....and WHO IS Vegas??? Well, yes, "Vegas Bob."
Well, here goes:
1. High Rolling Divas
2. Divas of Dice
3. __________________ write...
