You're in the Army Now - 1943
Sat. August 2, 2014 at 05:30 PM
You're in the Army Now! The year...1943 The war...World War II The bombing of Pearl Harbor had already taken place December 7, 1941. My father-in-law, Melvin Boyce Montgomery, then 18 years old was drafted in the army in July of 1943 to fight for country and honor and served in the 103rd Infantry. Mel took an exam to be a "signalman." He made a perfect score. He was sent to Camp Crowder, Missouri for placement in the Signal Corps school as a result of his test score. He was to take 16 weeks of Basic training there. He learned the Army Music School was also at hat camp. He3 got permission talk with them about auditioning for the Army Band. He auditioned on euphonium and drums and was accepted and transferred. He Played Euphonium in the concert band and trap drums in the dance band. After graduating from School of Music, he was assigned to the 103rd Infantry Band and sent to Camp Howze near Gainesville, TX. sometime in the summer. Somehow in the mix, the instruments disappeared and were replaced with guns, akin to the plowshares honed into swords. Before he knew it, he was on a truck going across Europe. As he remembers and tells the story during his latest round of pain shots for his legs and back, He told the story: "I was the last member to be assigned to that band It was originated in 1942 Until October we made preparations for overseas duty. Oct. convoyed to Marsalis , France From there by train to central France to join the push toward Germany and Rhine River. Mid November to Dec. 22, Voges Mountain offensive.. Dec. 22, moved Westward by trucks to area near Luxemburg to join with Patton’s 3rd Army in defense at the Battle of the Bulge. German army had advanced and pushed American line back that made a bulge in our lines and they surrounded the 101st Airborne Division and asked them to surrender and the commander responded with the word “Nut”" It was December 1944. The players were in...

Sun. August 4, 2013 at 11:24 AM
I love red! RED is a fabulous color. Mari Realty loves red too. What a coincidence. Simple pleasures are bliss. Our Huntsville TX backyard is bliss. Working Real Estate, for me, is Bliss! Our backyard provides us with so much joy. The simple things mean a lot--like gorgeous colors, smells--like a handful of fresh herbs from the herb garden. That goodness my husband keeps it all alive and looking spectacular. Our backyard is one of my favorite places in the world! .

Weekends In Our Elkins Lake Home are Special
Mon. January 21, 2013 at 01:47 PM
Weekends are special. Sometimes they are filled with house projects, but it's always about playing with the puppinos. Many times weekends have a lot to do with Huntsville TX Real Estate---yes, listing, showing and selling homes and land---Walker County Real Estate! Our Elkins Lake home is a great vantage point from which to enjoy the good old outdoors as the Sam Houston National Forest is a stone's throw away and also a great starting point to get to show Lake Livingston Waterfront property or a Lake Conroe April Sound Townhouse or Condo. But, this weekend, it was all about spending time with my husband, and our "puppinos," Carmen, Bella & Dirk. A nice roaring fire to keep our toes warm and we are good to go! Or not go anywhere. Ahh....weekends are great however they turn out.

Social Media---Social + Media. Fast track to "getting to know you, getting to know all about you" (okay---how many of you heard the song from the "King and I" in your head???) It's a different world than Cary Grant's of "Judy, Judy Judy" fame or Yul Brynner whose most famous role was the King of Siam in "The King and I." Scene from The King and I Cary Grant See--half of you don't even know who Yul Brynner OR Cary Grant is. For the first time in my life (well, maybe not the first), I'm not the young one with the new ideas, taking the newest risks, trying the newest things. That's it--it's a generation gap. This is the point where I suspiciously start sounding like my parents. I Facebook--But I can't be a part of the "Under 40 Social Networking Club" in my MLS Area-seriously, I can't. For the first time in my life---really this time---I feel older. So, where does Facebook come...
